Vikramaditya terms free education to girls a historic step

JAMMU: MLC and senior leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Vikramaditya Singh today hailed the decision of the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti to make education for all girls in the State free. He said that this revolutionary step of the State Government headed by Mehbooba Mufti would help in socio-economic growth of the females in State and would bring a positive change in the society.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Vikramaditya Singh said that Mehbooba Mufti as a Chief Minister of the State has taken my steps for the socio-economic growth of the people in general and womenfolk in particular.
Vikramadiyta asserted that PDP led coalition regime has already launched revolutionary schemes like Ladli Beti and Asara and such historic schemes will go a long way in changing perception of the society towards the girl child. He said that there is dire need to educate the masses about these revolutionary schemes so that deserve lot will take benefit of such schemes. Under the Ladli Beti Scheme, the State Government will contribute Rs 1,000 per month towards the birth of every girl child born after 1st April, 2015 for the next 14 years. Upon reaching the age of 21, the girl child would receive a sum of Rs 6.5 lakh.
Vikramaditya said, “Our State Government has taken a far sighted and noble step forward by making this decision. It is reminiscent of Maharaja Hari Singh’s decisions of in the 1930s wherein his government offered scholarships for girls to study and banned child marriage among other progressive steps.”
