Compensate them

0 55

Dear Editor,
Reference to ‘Jammu border like a war zone: 8 killed’, it is an irony of fate for the unfortunate people leaving in border areas who are being killed and injured due to shelling by Pakistani Rangers. Neither the state government nor the Central government are able to protect them. Since there is no provision for government compensation to these people , they are left to fend for themselves. It would be better if the government launches a plan for life insurance cover to those residing in border areas at a nominal premium, or take a policy decision to compensate the affected persons. It is a pity that after the surgical strikes, there is complete absence of bilateral talks or effective armed action. Now, it is anybody’s guess as to how long this state of affairs would continue and how many more casualties will follow.

Solan
