Zorawar Club, BSF Kashmir win opening ties

JAMMU: Zorawar Club Satwari and BSF Kashmir won their respective matches to move into the next round on the opening day of the Second Shaheed Baba Banda Bahadur Memorial Hockey Tournament, organised by Kashmir Sikh Sangat under the aegis of Hockey Jammu and Kashmir, at K K Hakku Stadium, here on Wednesday. In the first match of the day, Zorawar Club defeated Kathua Hockey Club 5-1. Shivay Vaid (18th and 55th), Vivek (38th), Vijay Vaid (40th) and Harsh Vaid (50th) were the scorers. For Kathua Club, Rajesh was lone scorer, who helped the side reduce the margin. In this match, Baba Jatinder Pal Singh was Chief Guest while Dr Dhanwant Singh (USA), Chairman Kashmir Sikh Sangat, was Guest of Honour. Meanwhile, in another match of the day, BSF Kashmir blanked Deshmesh Club Nanak Nagar 5-0. Senapati (15th), Amrit Lakra (17th and 35th), Roshan Ekka (37th) and Kuldeep Ekka (54th) were the scorers. Harbhajan Singh (retired SE) was Chief Guest while Sukhdev Singh was Guest of Honour. Today’s matches were officiated by the technical panel comprising Karanjeet Singh, Manjeet Singh, Joginder Singh, Jagjeet Singh Reen, Jaspreet Singh and Jagjit Singh.
