Pathankot: Vehicles coming from Jammu and Kashmir will be under the radar of security personnel with the Punjab Police today installing CCTV cameras at Madhopur inter-state check post, which serves as an entry point to the vehicles coming from the neighbouring state.
“We have installed eight CCTV (cameras) at Madhopur inter-state barrier which will allow the police to keep an eye on all the vehicles coming from Jammu and Kashmir,” Pathankot SSP Rakesh Kaushal said.
It will help the police thwart any attempt by anti-social elements to enter Punjab through the national highway, he said.
Earlier, no CCTV cameras was installed at the Madhopur check post, which becomes very sensitive from the security point of view as J&K is affected by terrorist activities, police said.
They further said CCTV cameras have also been installed at Darwan and Kathlore area as part of the efforts to enhance security arrangements.
They said efforts were being made to secure sensitive areas in Pathankot with the installation of CCTV cameras.
“We have plans to add 1,500 more CCTV cameras in the city in the coming 2-3 months,” the SSP said, adding at present, over 700 CCTV cameras had been installed at several points.
