Irate villagers block highway over hit & run case, seeks driver’s arrest

NOWSHERA: The Jammu – Poonch National Highway was blocked by the locals by placing body of Capt (Retd) Mohan Singh who was killed in a road accident. The protesters demanded seizure of vehicle and arrest of driver within 24 hours.
Capt Mohan Singh son of Pritam Singh who was returning to his home on bike, was hit by an unknown vehicle late in the evening on Tuesday near Narian, and died on the spot. The victim was shifted by the Chingus Police to Sub District Hospital Nowshera where the doctors declared him as brought dead. The family members and the villagers in large number after receiving body from hospital, placed it on National Highway at Narian and blocked the road at 10:00 AM. They demanded tracing out the vehicle and arresting its driver within 24 hours.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Rajouri, SSP Rajeshwar Singh, Dy SP Headquarter and Tehsildar Nowshera reached the spot and pacified the protesters. They assured the family members and the prominent people of the area that a team of officers has been constituted and the vehicle will be traced out and its driver arrested soon.
On the assurance of senior officers, the protesters shifted the body and opened the road after more than three hours.
