Jitendra releases book on Maharaja Hari Singh

JAMMU: Union Minister, Dr. Jitendra Singh on Saturday released ‘Jammu Kashmir Ke Jan Nayak Maharaja Hari Singh’ authored by Dr. Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri, Vice Chancellor, Himachal Pradesh Central University, Dharamshala at a function held here. On the occasion, Professor Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, R.D Sharma presided over the function.
The book release function was organised by Department of History, University of Jammu in collaboration with Jammu Kashmir Study Centre at the Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Jitendra Singh congratulated the author and hoped that the book becomes a good reference work on Maharaja Hari Singh. He asked the gathering to do some discourse and narrative correction as Maharaja Hari Singh is the most wrongly portrayed ruler of his times. In his remarks, Professor R.D Sharma lauded the work of Dr Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri, who being a professor of Hindi has brought in a work on History. Professor Jigar Mohammed, Dean Research Studies and HoD History, University of Jammu welcomed the gathering. Dr Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri spoke on the reasons of his writing the book and acquainted the audience to various aspects of Maharaja Hari Singh along with some of the misconceptions prevailing about Hari Singh especially events connected with State’s accession to India.
Ashutosh Bhatnagar, Director Jammu Kashmir Study Centre in his remarks referred to the contributions of the scholars of the State like Abhinav Gupta among others. He also threw light on the academic activities of the Jammu Kashmir Study Circle. Formal vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Gautam Mengi, President Jammu Kashmir Study Centre. The proceedings of the function were conducted by Dr. Madhulika Singh of the Depa-rtment of History, University of Jammu. Ainee Ambreen of the Department of History worked as a Secretary and Coordinated the function.
