UDHAMPUR: Higher Secondary School (HSS) Udhampur won the opening volleyball match by defeating Chirgai Club by straight 2-0 (25-17, 25-21) in the District level Volleyball Championship which commenced at Government Higher Secondary School ground, here on Tuesday.
Earlier, the tournament was declared open by the Chief Guest, Ved Parkash, Principal of the host School in the presence of Guest of Honour, Shaktish Chopra, Manager Stadium Udhampur.
Both the teams were introduced to the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour by Roshan Lal, Senior Vice President of Volleyball Association of district Udhampur and Sanjay Sharma, Organising Secretary of the championship.
In other Pool-A matches, Tikri beat BBSV Peeth by 2-0 (25-21, 25-23), UVC defeated Roun Domail by 2-0 (25-15, 26-24), Chenani outplayed Tikri by 2-1 (21-25, 25-15, 15-12) and HSS Boys Udhampur trounced Ramnagar by 2-0 (25-18, 25-21). Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest congratulated the participants and organising committee and stressed upon the participants to play the game in a true sportsmanship.
All the matches were officiated by Shashi Sharma, Ashok Kumar, Naveen Sharma, Kuldeep Sharma, Sanjeev Verma and Manik Nargotra. Prominent persons among others present were Harjeet Singh, Somnath, Jaspal Singh, Kanchan Sharma, Ashwani Kumar, Rajinder Kumar, Pawan Kumar and Som Raj.
According to organizers, semifinal matches shall be played at Mini Stadium Udhampur on 5th October at 11::00 AM.
