Income Declaration Scheme-2016 J&K tops in NW Region with Rs. 224.52 Cr declarations

JAMMU: With the culmination of Income Declaration Scheme-2016 on Saturday, Jammu and Kashmir has emerged as the unchallenged leader among other States of North West Region with 611 assessees declaring Rs. 224.52 crore as total amount of income under the scheme.
The Income Tax Department, J&K has made remarkable achievement in not only achieving the original targets given but exceeding revised targets as well given to it by the Ministry of Finance under this scheme.
Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, J&K, Sangeeta Gupta, while acknowledging the achievements of the department expressed gratitude to all the stake holders including the assessees of the State, Tax Professionals, Chartered Accountants, Advocates, and representatives of Jewellers’ Associations and various Trade and Beopar Mandals, who inspite of the prevailing unrest which has affected the life and business for the last more than three months have not only extended their full cooperation for the scheme but also have made up the shortfall from the large part of the state comprising Kashmir Division. She thanked the print and electronic media for providing wide coverage to the awareness campaign launched by the department. She also appreciated the officers of the Department of Income Tax Jammu for conveying and convincing the assessees of the State regarding the features and benefits of the scheme.
J&K has secured top slot among the other States of North West Region comprising economically much better stations like Amritsar, Jallandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Bathinda and Chandigarh of Punjab and other stations from Himachal Pradesh and Haryana which are controlled from Chandigarh.
This figure may further increase after the inclusion of declarations and amount declared by the declarants of the State directly to CPC, Bengaluru, which was also an authorised authority for direct declarations to maintain confidentiality.
