Inter-state drugs racket busted Ten arrested with 18.5 kgs charas, 150 corex bottles

JAMMU: Under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’, a special drive against drug, the Jammu Police claimed to have busted three inter-state drug rackets in a single day with the arrest of 10 persons and seizure of 18.5 kilograms of Charas and 150 bottles of corex.
“In continuation to operation Sanjeevani launched by District Police Jammu a major success has been achieved by busting three inter-state drug rackets in a single day,” SSP Jammu Sunil Gupta told reporters.
“In three separate incidents police has been able to recover drugs costing lakhs of rupees in international market,” he added.
On intervening night of 28th/29th August 2016, SSP said, police intercepted three vehicles bearing number MH31AH-0171, JK07-0235 and JK03E-1763 near Shiv Temple Trikuta Nagar and during search 15 kilograms of Charas was recovered. Police arrested five persons and registered a case FIR No. 167/2016 under section 8/20/21 NDPS Act at Police Station Bahu Fort.
The arrested were identified as Suraj Parkash, son of Ram Lal, resident of Mumbai, Altaf Ahmed, son of Hazar Shah, resident of Mumbai, Ghulam Mohd Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohi-udu-Din, resident of Tanmarg Baramulla, Mohd Amin, son of Ali Mohd, resident of Bijbehara Anantnag and Mohd Sultan, son of AbduI Rehman, resident of Bijbehara Anantnag.
In another incidence, SSP Jammu said, Patrolling party of Police Station Nagrota during patrolling on national highway near Bambyal Morh intercepted a Maruti Car bearing registration number JK13A-8481 and found three persons in suspicious circumstances.
On their checking seven packets of Charas weighing approximately 3.5 Kilos were recovered from their possession and seized on spot, he said adding that a case FIR No. 175/2016 under section 8/20/29 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Nagrota. Those arrested were Bharat Bhushan, son of Sita Ram, resident of Raipur Ban Talab, Aqib Ahmed Mir, son of AbduI Majeef Mir and Ghulam Nabi Bhat, son of Ghulam Ahmed Bhat, both residents of Bijbehara, Anantnag.
In third incident, SI Waseem Mehraj along with his party laid a Naka at Transport Nagar Jammu and intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK02 AE-5888. During search, police said, 150 bottles of banned corex were recovered.
Two persons namely Sanjay Sharma, son of Bishan Dass and Raj Kumar Sharma, son of Jai Paul Sharma, resident of Udhampur have been arrested. An FIR under relevant section of law has been registered at the Police Station Bahu Fort.
‘Defunct’ Drugs Department
The failure of Drugs Controller Department headed by an officer of Assistant Controller rank has made the department virtually defunct as no officer is doing his job. As the post is being headed by an incompetent junior officer, the field staff of Drugs Department is involved in earning money one way or the other.
It is the duty of Drugs Department to monitor the sale and purchase of intoxicant drugs like Corex etc. in which they have miserably failed and the police department which has the main duty to enforce law and order cannot ignore the sale of contraband and intoxicating drugs in Jammu.
