Excise Department arrests two for illicit distillation

JAMMU: To curb menace of distillation and smuggling of illicit liquor from other States, J and K Excise Department on Friday arrested two persons and destroyed 700 Kg. of Lahan and recovered 12 bottles of Illicit liquor from their possession.
Excise teams led by ET0 Excise Range South Naeem Moughal and ET0 Eradication Wing Jammu Suresh Sharma conducted a series of raids in rural areas of Bishnah and R S Pura ranges and grilled several suspects.
The teams visited Deoli, Makhanpur, Salehar, Sikanderpur, Dablehar, Kotli-Charkan, Haslachak , Tarachak, Sheikhupora and Shibbuchak villages to arrest the menace of illicit distillation and during the course of raids, arrested two persons namely Mangal Dass son of Sardari Lal of village Kotli-Charkan and Bina Devi wife of Rashpal of Sheikhopora after recovering more than 700 Kg. of Lahan and 12 bottles of Illicit liquor from their possession.
The accused were arrested and booked under Section (48) of the Excise Act.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Excise Range South in coordination with Eradication wing Jammu has launched a massive drive against illicit distillation of liquor. During the current financial year till date the team has destroyed 4000 Kg of lahan in Bishnah/R S Pura areas as against 1340 Kg. of Lahan destroyed during the corresponding period of previous financial year.
The raids were held under the overall Supervision of Excise Commissioner, J&K T. Angchuk and Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive) Jammu Nagendra Singh Jamwal.
