GGF organises Peace Assembly to remember Hiroshima’s victims

JAMMU: On the Atomic Bomb Awareness Day, Peace Assembly was organised at JK Montessorie British Senior School, Jammu in collaboration with UNIC New Delhi.
Vice President, Gandhi Global Family, Padmashri S.P Varma, was the keynote speaker on this occasion.
In his brief interaction with the students and staff members of the school, he shared how the world can unite by peace and harmony but not by dropping bombs on each other.
During the second world war, allied bloc under the leadership of USA in close association with UK dropped the world’s first atomic bomb over Hiroshima on 6th Aug 1945 killed 1.4 lakh innocent people causing multifaceted sufferings to human lives and nature and if the same trend is followed the humanity will come to an end.
Today, Russia and US possess 93 per cent of the world’s nuclear arsenals of total 15,000 deadly missiles followed by countries like France, China, UK, Pakistan, India, Israel and North Korea, he stated.
He cautioned the gathering that a minor nuclear exchange could create nuclear terror on our global civilisation. He appealed for the abolition of nuclear weapons and the achievement of everlasting world peace. Thus, he underlined that there’s an urgent need to follow the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi based on tolerance, non violence, greater understanding, cooperation which he termed as Weapons of Mass Protection (WMP).
Two minute’s silence was also observed in the memories of 1945 victims.
Worrying about the Kashmir situation which is worsening and widening every passing day and in which a meaningful breakthrough for initiating dialogue is not in sight, Varma emphasised on a serious think to resolve the perpetual conflict.
Others who spoke on the occasion include Prof Ashiq Malik Peace activist, Vimla Slathia, Prabha Slathia, Sanjeev Gupta Chairman JKMS and Rajni Gupta Director JKMS.
In the end Geeta Dixit, Vice Principal of the School thanked the guests for their valuable contribution to the society and also pledged to inculcate the values of Mahatma Gandhi among student community.
