JU organises workshop on women rights

JAMMU: In order to augment the awareness regarding women rights, The Law Department of University of Jammu held a workshop on ‘Understanding various tools and techniques employed by a research while interacting with the women folk in rural areas’.
The workshop started with a welcome address by Nitan Sharma and Kanav Padha and was supervised by Kartika Bakshi and Sonam Prashar, research scholars of the Department of Law. Devika Ranjan from Georgetown University, USA Resource Person for the above said workshop shared her experiences while working in one of the badly affected border village of the Samba District. She used theatre as a tool in gauging the problems being faced by the women, prime among them, being drug and alcohol addiction and domestic violence. Through various theatrical exercises, the women were made to come up with self-sustaining solutions. Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, Head/Director Childline, Department of Law stressed that women of the society and children are badly affected in these rural and border villages and community can play a pivotal role in addressing these issues. The workshop ended with the solemn pledge to eliminate all forms of violence against women and make the rights declared in international instruments and constitution meaningful. Vote of thanks was presented by Rohit Khajuria, Coordinator Childline and Deepika Badyal, Research Scholar.
