Travel agency dupes people over Rs 1.46 croreNew Delhi:- A south-Delhi based travel agency allegedly duped several persons, including an officer at the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, to the tune of over Rs 1.46 crore on the pretext of holiday packages, police said today.

“One persons has been arrested in connection with the case. Efforts are on to track down others,” a senior police officer said.

The agency, which is now suspected to be part of a larger racket, cancelled flight tickets and other bookings without informing the clients, despite having charged them for the same.

Once the clients realised that they were cheated, the agency was gone — their office, which used to be near South Extension, was no longer there and all employees went untraceable, the officer said.

The incident came to light after the I&B ministry official, who had booked a package for Srinagar, approached police and lodged a complaint. In his case, when he managed to contact one of the directors of the company, he claimed that his partner in the enterprise has gone missing.

Soon the police came across 29 other complainants and a case of cheating and criminal conspiracy was registered in connection with the incident at Kotla Mubarakpur Police Station.

The agent has duped people to the tune of over Rs 1.46 crore, the complainants told police, the officer said.
