Jammu witnesses massive protests over water, power shortage

JAMMU: Residents of Jammu West on Saturday staged protest against government for not providing basic amenities to the people of Jammu city.
Inhabitants of Rajpura area of Jammu West blocked the Rajpura Road and raised slogans against PHE Department alleging that they have not received water supply for the last five days.
The residents said that they already took up the matter with the authorities concerned many times but all in vain.
“It seems that neither the government and nor the PHE authorities are bothered about the fact that the people of the Jammu city are facing acute water shortage,” they added.
“If the PHE authorities do not restore the water supply at the earliest they have no other option but to Gherao the Chief Engineer’s Office,” said a protester.
The residents urged the PHE officials to restore the water supply so that they get a sigh of relief in this scorching heat.
Meanwhile, residents of New Plot area under the banner of Jammu West Assembly Movement (JWAM) staged protest against the scarcity of water supply.
Led by President JWAM, Sunil Dimple, the residents alleged that they are already facing to unscheduled power cuts and now scarcity of water supply has added woes to their problems.
Dimple said that the Jammu city are facing long power cuts and many localities are without light for one week.
He said inspite of assurances given by the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh that 24 hours interrupted power supply will be provided to the people of Jammu region nothing has been seen on ground. He said the Janipur Grid Station has totally failed to cater to the needs of the people and is totally paralysed. He alleged that there is no coordination among the SEs, XEns, AEEs and JEs of the PDD which is main cause of long and unscheduled power cuts.
Dimple mentioned that no water has been supplied in the West Constituency for the last 15 days in many localities alleging that the BJP-PDP Coalition Government has deceived the people of Jammu by selling drinking water to them through installing meters on water connections.
Dimple appealed to the government to come out with a solution to the problems being faced by the people of Jammu region by providing uninterrupted power and water supply to the people.
Among those who joined the protest include Rekha Devi, Sheela Devi, Parveen, Sharda Devi, Sapna Devi, Renu Kumari, Bimla Devi, Veena Devi, Sheela Devi, Kanta Bhan, Shashi Devi, Raji, Sanju Kumar, Daleep Kumar, Baldev Singh, Sham Lal, Dimpy, Rishi, Rahul, Ramesh Chander, Rocky, Krishan Lal, Kuldeep, Polu Kumar, Gulu Ram, Tarsem and Rajev Rattan.
