Market checking squads realise Rs 57,100 fine

RAMBAN: In wake of Amarnath Yatra and Eid-ul-Fitr, special teams conducted various market checking in various districts and realised Rs 57,100 as fine from erring traders.
The special teams constituted by Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Aijaz, in wake of upcoming festival of Eid-ul-Fitr, conducted extensive checks in the main markets in Ramban town.
During the checking, the team booked traders for violations like non display of rate lists, over charging, and un-hygienic food items and imposed a fine of Rs 6,400 besides the team also destroyed over 20 kg rotten vegetables, fruits and bakery items and other eatables in the market.
With an aim to keep check on the market, similar checking drive was also conducted by Legal Metrology department and a fine of Rs 4,700 was imposed on the erring traders.
Strict instructions were passed to the defaulters to maintain hygiene in their shops and also ensure quality edibles are sold to the consumers on reasonable rates.
POONCH: On the direction of Deputy Commissioner Poonch, a joint market checking team from different law enforcing agencies continued its drive against erring business establishments today here at Poonch to keep a check on prices and quality of essential commodities particularly, vegetables, fruits, meat and chicken during Ramdhan and Eid-ul-Fitr.
The teams conducted comprehensive checking in various localities of Poonch against violators of law including encroachers of foot paths outside their premises. The erring shopkeepers were booked for different violations like non display of rates lists, use of unauthorised weighing scales, non display Legal Metrology certificates, sale of packaged goods without declaration, overcharging, use of domestic cylinders for commercial purposes, unstamped meat and unverified weighing scale. A total of Rs30,000 fine was realised from the defaulters on the spot.
The joint inspection team was comprised of Tehsildar, CEO Municipal Committee, Assistant Controller Legal Metrology and other field official including inspector of Legal Metrology, CAPD and Municipal Committee Poonch.
KATHUA: The officers of Legal Metrology Department headed by Ajay Kumar Verma, Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Kathua inspected various establishments particularly meat, chicken, vegetable, fruit , bakery , sweets and other provisional stores dealing with snacks and cold drink and other eatable items in various localities including Main Bazar Kathua, Lakhanpur, National Highway Lakhanpur to Hatli Morh,Danna , Tanore, Basholi Road Kathua and adjoining areas . Vicky Sharma Inspector Legal Metrology Kathua accompanied the inspection team.
During inspection, 10 erring traders were booked and penalty of Rs 16,000 was imposed for violation various provisions of J and K Standard of Weights and Measures Enforcement Act 2011(Amended) and packages Commodities Rules.
