Market checking squads book defaulters, realise Rs 27,500 fine

JAMMU: The market checking teams, constituted by Deputy Commissioner, Simrandeep Singh, to keep a check on prices and quality of essential commodities particularly meat and chicken during Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr on Saturday inspected various markets of Jammu city.
The teams conducted surprise checking in various localities of city including Talab Khatikan, Ustad Mohalla, Amphalla, New Plot, Janipura, Channi, Narwal, Trikuta Nagar and adjoining areas. The erring shopkeepers were booked for different violations like non display of rates lists and food safety certificates, overcharging, use of domestic cylinders for commercial purposes, unstamped meat and unverified weighing scale. A total of Rs 27,500 fine was realised from the defaulters.
Deputy Commissioner informed that surprise market checking will be conducted on daily basis as complaints of overcharging and non display of rate lists etc. are being received from general public. The teams were comprised of ADC, Rifat Kohli, ACR, Sachan Dev Singh, ACG, Sachin Jamwal, Deputy Controller, Legal Meteorology, Manoj Prabhakar, ADs of CAPD Department, Food Safety Officers besides officials of JMC.
