J&K peddler to train at national camp

JAMMU: A prominent kayak and canoe player from Kashmir, Muneer Malik of Srinagar has been selected to be trained at the national camp to be held at Maheshwar in Madhya Pradesh.
Later, these shortlisted players trained at the camp shall represent India in the international championship, informed President of J and K Water Sports Kayaking and Canoeing Association, Firdous Tak.
Muneer Malik, who performed brilliantly during Third National Canoe Slalom championship held in March is the only peddler from the State selected for the prestigious camp, sponsored by Sports Authority of India (SAI) under the banner of Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association. Malik has been trained by coach Bilquis Mir right from grass root level. The achievement is significant because he was being trained with limited resources, equipment and government support. Meanwhile, the J and K Water Sports Kayaking and Canoeing Association congratulated Muneer and his coach, Bilquis Mir for bringing laurels to the State and highlighting the potential of Jammu and Kashmir at the national level.
