General Motors has officially announced today it will upgrade the once popular Tavera MPV.  An updated version of Tavera will come with a BS-IV engine. GM had to discontinue the Tavera from metro cities due to the Government mandate to sell only BS-IV vehicles since April 1, 2016. The new Tavera would be produced at the company’s Halol plant in Gujarat. The new Tavera is expected will come with changes in exteriors as well as interiors to bring freshness to the product. Apart from the Toyota Innova Crysta and Maruti Ertiga, every other MPV is struggling in the market. The customer prefers SUVs over MPVs for their aggressive styling and massive road presence.  GM India has said that it will extend production at its Halol Assembly Plant until March 2017 while exploring a number of options in relation to the Halol site, including its sale.

According to GM India President and Managing Director Kaher Kazem, this will provide more time to ensure an orderly transition for employees, suppliers and other stakeholders as the company continues to work through options for the facility.

General Motors India recently announced its plan to launch at least five new Chevrolet models within the space of 24 months, including the new Trailblazer, new Beat, Essentia new Cruze and Beat Activ.
