SRINAGAR: MLA R.S Pura Dr Gagan Bhagat on Thursday sought augmentation of facilities provided in the Nari Niketan and Balashram situated at R.S Pura.
Speaking during zero hour of the Legislative Assembly Gagan raised the issue of prevailing conditions and facilities provided to inmates of Nari Niketan and Balashram at R.S Pura. He demanded assurance from the government on steps to renovate the aforesaid shelter homes besides rectification of anomalies and problems which the inmates of these shelters are passing through.
He said despite being only shelter homes for the females and children in the Jammu Province, these institutions are facing utter neglect of the government making mockery on various schemes including Beti Bachao Beti Padao, etc. Accusing previous government of neglecting these institutions, he demanded that a House Committee should be set up to monitor and upgrade the available facilities.
He also raised the issue of macadamisation of roads in R.S Pura Constituency under the city and town roads project and demanded link roads from BSNL Exchange to KKK Road, Railway Line Kotli Shah Doula to Gagian, and Main Road Malikpur to Simbal Tekri via Sujjadpur. Subsequently, Minister for Public Works and Horticulture A.R Veeri assured the legislator that he has directed the Chief Engineer PWD Jammu to do the needful at the earliest. Later, Gagan also met Minister for Social Welfare Sajjad Lone and apprised about the dismal picture of these shelters.
The Minister however, assured that soon he will visit the spots and ensure upgradation.
