International Yoga Day; Dy CM highlights importance

SRINAGAR: Highlighting the importance of Yoga in overall development of human persona, Deputy Chief, Dr. Nirmal Singh on Tuesday said that benefits of this traditional form of exercise and meditation has been highlighted since times immemorial and we should all collectively ensure its propagation as well as promotion.
The Deputy Chief Minister was addressing a gathering of participants who had gathered to perform Yoga in wee hours of the morning here today on of International Yoga Day.
Minister for Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Abdul Gani Kohli, Vice Chairman Pahari Development Board Kuldeep Gupta, legislators Choudhary Sukhnandan, Sat Sharma, Rajesh Gupta, Ramesh Arora, Kuldeep Raj, intellectuals, civil servants, students and people from all walks of life participated in the event.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that the concept of doing yoga is prevalent in our society since ancient times and its benefits have also been highlighted by national and international scholars, which has also resulted in it being adopted by many western countries and Asiatic Nations.
He said that the utility of exercise and meditation for the overall wellbeing of mental and physical health has also been recognised by every religion.
Dr. Singh said that the onus of propagating this health friendly concept should be on every individual so that the younger generation gets attracted to this, which would result in their mental and physical development.
Taking a cue from history Dr. Singh said Swami Vivekananda while participating in the international conference of religions at Chicago had highlighted the role and importance Indian civilization, besides the contribution it rendered to Yoga, which resulted in it being adopted and practiced by so many western nations.
The Deputy Chief Minister also appreciated the role being played by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in propagating this ancient art among the western nations, Asiatic countries as well as Middle East.
“The Prime Minister who is himself a great exponent of Yoga has also been instrumental in ensuing that this traditional art of living was well received globally,” he added.
The session was later followed by an interaction between the participants and the Yoga experts in which various health benefits of Yoga were discussed.
