JAMMU: Chander Mohan Sharma, Convenor Tawi Andolan expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh for getting Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Jammu Development Authority and Sabarmati River Front Upliftment Corporation Ahmedabad executed for rejuvenation of Surya-putri Tawi by developing it from Bhagwati Bridge to Kol-Kandoli Nagrota, a 10 Km stretch by spending Rs. 1,000 Cr in the project.
Sharma said that beautification of the river front cannot be completed without getting basin and catchment area of the river vacated from illegal occupation of land grabbers. He said that vacation of Tawi land and connected forest will have to be done as was done in Ahmedabad for Sabarmati River Rejuvenation. He further said that the announcement of Dr. Nirmal Singh Minister of Urban Development and Power, that all the filthy big drains carrying sewerage to river will be diverted immediately under Amrut Project, it send a welcome message to all the people of Jammu who were concerned about the conditions of River Tawi which had virtually become dust bin.
Tawi Andolan has decided to start similar Puja Arti at Sudh Mahadev, Chenani, Manwal and Nagrota. He informed that recently school going children were involved to perform Puja Arti at Dudu, which is the origin of River Tawi in a nature camp under the aegis of noted environmentalist Dr C.M Seth.
Others who were present in the press conference include Subash Gupta Co-Convenor, Surinder Sharma, Joginder Khajuria, Abhishek Sharma, Shushpal Singh, Rekha Mahajan, Neelam Mahajan, Anju Dogra, Advocate, Hunar Gupta and Veena Bakshi.
