New Delhi:- Actor Sunny Deol, whose “Mohalla Assi” has been denied certification by the censor board due to alleged use of cuss words, says the film body should not stop release of any movie.

In June last year, the release of “Mohalla Assi” was stayed by court for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.

Two months later, the film leaked online.

“I feel end of the day after the film has been made, they (CBFC) should only give certificate to the film and not stop its release. What they should see is that if the film is a fictitious one or not,” Sunny told reporters here.

The movie is loosely based on Kashinath Singh’s popular Hindi novel “Kashi Ka Assi”, a satire on the commercialisation of Varanasi and fake gurus who lure foreign tourists.

“The film should have released till now. It will definitely get released some day. The producers are fighting for it. There is nothing in it which needs to be censored. We should not try to stop a film’s release,” Sunny added.

The debate on censorship has got a new lease of life, courtesy the open battle between makers of “Udta Punjab” and the censor board.

When asked about the issue of certification, Sunny said, “From the creative point of view, we always feel that our film doesn’t get to face any problem but then there is a board sitting there to correct us. If they are correct or not, this war has been going on since long time. There is no conclusion to this war.”

“We should imply censorship on the internet and television which people misuse a lot in order to say anything to anybody,” he said.
