‘47 Rehri zones in Jammu will help  realising Swachhta Mission’STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Mandeep Kaur on Thursday convened the first meeting of Town Vending Committee constituted under the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act., 2014 here at meeting hall of JMC.
Pursuant to the directions of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, 47 Rehri zones have been established in the Jammu Municipal Corporation area. Process of shifting all street vendors to these zones is on and so far 10 zones have been made operational.
The meeting was held to motivate and involve the relevant stakeholders in the process. It is pertinent to mention here that National Policy on Urban Vendors (2009) of Government of India and further directions of the Supreme Court require every city to have an earmarked zones for street vendors with basic civic amenities, so that they may have honourable living.
During the meeting
issues related to rehabilitation of street vendors/ Rehriwalas to the identified Rehri zones were discussed with the representatives of various street vending organisations/unions so that they can live with dignity and earn their livelihood. During the meeting, VC, JDA Mubarak Singh also spoke about the Government policy that these Rehri zones have been created to decongest the traffic in Jammu city and provide a fixed place of business to the street vendors.
Commissioner, JMC also assured the representatives of street vendors/hawkers union that the basic civic amenities like water, electricity, cleanliness, etc. will be provided in the Rehri zones and all their problems will be resolved on priority basis. The creation of Rehri zones will also help in stepping towards achieving the goal of Swachh Jammu Mission.

B, Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr. Arun Manhas, President, CCI Rakesh Gupta, President Trikuta Nagar Welfare Society Vikram Gour, President Poonch House Bohri Baldev Raj, President Jewel Rehri Union Om Parkash, President Medical College Rehri Union Girdhari Lal, representative Main Stop Gandhi Nagar Rehri Union Subash Chander, President Talab Tillo Rehri Union Rajinder Kumar, welcomed the step taken by Jammu Municipal Corporation and assured their full support in the creation of Rehri zones.
Joint Commissioner (A), JMC R.S. Jamwal, Assistant Commissioner (R), JMC Subah Mehta (Nodal Officer), Senior Town Planner, JMC Anil Raina, SDPO City North Vivek Shekhar, and Senior Manager Housing Board Rajinder Kumar Gupta were also present.
