The Chabahar agreement reached by India, Iran and Afghanistan, which had been in the pipeline for nearly a decade, marks a new level in India’s overseas ambitions, establishing a genuinely strategic presence not just in one of the world’s great energy markets, but potentially giving Indian business access to some of the fastest growing economies of the future.
Now, New Delhi must ensure that commitments are delivered on time, as India’s record on delivering promised infrastructure is patchy; the experience with Nepal shows it.
