JAMMU: Shiv Sena Bala Ji Sahib Thackery on Friday held a protest at Bari Brahmana against acute shortage of water, electricity in the state particularly Jammu Division and blocked Jammu-Pathankot National Highway for hours.
The protest demonstration was organized under the leadership of State Chief Dimpy Kohli , G.I Singh, Rajan Gupta and Senior leader Raj Singh, Raju Salaria, Kulbhushan Kumar who on the occasion made a strong appeal to Public Health Engineering Department, Power Development Department to gear-up its men and machinery to overcome water and electricity crisis in the whole Jammu Division.
They expressed serious concern over water, electricity shortage in Jammu and said that all officers of P.D.D and P.H.E Departments are shamelessly saying that they are helpless in solving water, power problem in Jammu.
They said that around total of 15 lakh people reside in the city at present. They face scarcity of drinking water everyday because of the callous attitude of the P.H.E Department despite the fact that this Department has adequate funds to take up new projects.
They said that PHE Department must speed up the Chenab diversion project in the best interest of people of Jammu. They further said that it is very unfortunate that P.H.E Department do not have any back-up plan for now which is a matter of great concern for all stakeholders. Underground resources are under great strain. The Chenab is the only source to save future generations.
They said that Jammu city got organised water supply in 1934 when Maharaja Hari Singh got the first water treatment plant built at Panjtirthi. The first tubewell to augment supply was drilled at Partap Bagh near the Tawi in 1956. Expansion of the city had led to over-exploitation of both underground and overground resources.
They said that if needs occurs P.H.E must start tanker supply in all areas to cater the need of people.
