Jammu gets welcome showers, residents get respite

JAMMU: Reeling under acute shortage of power and water supply, the locals of Jammu on Wednesday evening got a major relief from scorching heat following intermittent showers in parts of Jammu region.
Rains also lashed Katra, Udhampur, Reasi and adjoining areas of Samba and Kathua districts.
Reports reaching here from hilly areas of Rajouri and Poonch confirmed that due to rains in upper reaches the raging forest fires were slightly curtailed.
Fresh fires were, however, reported along the Line of Control in Krishna Ghati area of frontier Poonch district.
Meanwhile, Jammu city witnessed heavy downpour in the evening coupled with high speed winds, lightning and thunderstorm. More rains were expected during the night in the region.
Power supply was snapped in several parts of Jammu following intermittent showers but rains brought down spiraling mercury levels giving much needed relief from scorching heat.
The monsoon showers are expected to hit the State in the first week of July.
