Four killed, seven injured in Poonch accident

POONCH: Four persons, including two women, were killed and seven others injured when the vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.
A Tata Sumo (JK-12-3777) that was on its way to Khanetar from Poonch skidded off the road and fell into the deep gorge in Khanetar resulting in the death of the four passengers, a police officer said.
The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Rashid (40), Mohammad Sharif (72), Zubina Kausar (27) and Rubina Kausar (22), he said.
The injured were identified as Md. Khalid son of Mohd Faiz, Zulfa Bi wife of Mohd Bashir, Sher Mohd son of Taj Din, Tasleem Akhtar wife of Mohd Yaqoob, Fozia Kouser daughter of Mohd Bashir and Mohd Bashir son of Sher Mohd.
He said the rescue operation was launched and the injured were rushed
to the district hospital at Poonch for
treatment.
A case has been registered and investigation started, he said.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has expressed grief over the death of four persons in a tragic road accident in the border district of Poonch on Monday.
The Chief Minister conveyed her heart-felt sympathies to the bereaved family members and prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls. She wished speedy recovery to the injured.

The Chief Minister also conveyed her sympathies to the families of the four persons including three women who were killed in a separate road accident near Samba on Jammu-Pathankote highway on Saturday. Expressing concern over the increasing fatalities in road accidents, Mehbooba directed that all the concerned enforcement agencies to sternly deal with cases of overloading and other traffic violations. She particularly urged the DGP and IGP Traffic to enforce stringent measures to check overloading of transport vehicles and over-speeding.
