Family affair

Once again it is consolidation exercise on political front in Jammu and Kashmir with Mufti Tassaduq Hussain, the only son of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, likely to be PDP’s Lok Sabha candidate from South Kashmir once Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and his sister vacates it to take up father’s mantle in Anantnag. The seat fell vacant after former Mufti died on 7th January this year. A Lok Sabha MP, Mehbooba is contesting elections from Anantnag, and the byelection which was slated for 19th June now has been pushed to 21st June. The tradition of keeping legacy within families paved smooth way for entry in politics for Rahul Gandhi son of Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav son of Mulayam Singh Yadav and two sons and a daughter of Lalu Yadav namely Tej Pratap Yadav, Tejasvi Yadav and Misa Yadav. In Kashmir tradition dates back to entry of Farooq Abdullah into politics after the demise of his father Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah and later entry of his son Omar Abdullah in Kashmir politics. If some old horses are to be believed Mufti Muhammad Syed never voted for entry of Tassaduq in to Kashmir politics as he wanted his son to choose any other profession but not politics for some unknown reasons. That was the vision of father who had very long innings with various political parties and situations. Mehbooba had expressed unwillingness in last December and made it clear that she was “not” willing to take up the job. “No I don’t want to,” was her reply to a question about whether she would be soon taking over the helm of affairs in the militancy-hit State by a TV channel.  Thus she has her own reasons to push her brother into politics. Family legacy continuing in politics is no new thing this has been the worldwide trend and if Kashmir adopts the same rule it is the compulsion of politics and nothing else and should not be seen beyond.
