Shiksha Niketan principal flags off students to Moungri

JAMMU: Principal of Shiksha Niketan Senior Secondary School, Jeevan Nagar, Rameshwar Mengi flagged off the second batch of the school for J and K Himalayan Trekking Programme being organised by Tawi Trekkers J and K in Moungri area of Udhampur District.
The group comprised of 40 students including 21 girls and four teachers namely Sudershan Singh, Anju Slathia, Satvinder Kour and Aryanvir Singh. Manik Slathia, a trained mountaineer, accompanied the group as leader.
Meanwhile, the adventure activities at the camp headquartered at Youth Hostel Moungri were in full swing with budding trekkers enjoying trekking in the dense, calm and cool pine forest, rappelling and rock climbing in the nearby rocks and learning practical lessons in river crossing in the cold water Nala near the camp. The trekkers were also enjoying interaction with the local people and learning about the local culture and fauna and flora of the area.
Fresh international standard equipment, approved by UIAA, the apex body for mountaineering in the world, is being used for all the activities being conducted under the direct supervision of Everester Ram Singh Slathia, Director of the Camp.
The aim of the Himalayan Trekking Programme which Tawi Trekkers has been organising during summer vacations for the last about 26 years is to take the students away from the scorching heat and dust, hustle and bustle and monotony of city life and to bring them closer to nature thereby imbibing in them a deep sense of love for adventure and Himalayas.
The next batch of trekkers comprising of students of RM Public School, Chowadhi, Jammu shall leave for the trek on 6th July.
