Road accident is the most unwanted thing to happen to a road user and is happening on an alarming rate. The most unfortunate thing is that we don’t learn from our mistakes on road. Maximum crashes and deaths on road took place when drivers were overtaking vehicles. In metropolitan cities the traffic rules are being followed by the drivers to some extent but if we talk about our own Jammu city no one is properly adhering to the traffic rules. Even the educated ones are making mockery of everything. The recent tragic road accident at Talab Tillo in which an innocent girl lost her life haunts everyone. It’s shocking and agonising that matador drivers indulge in rash driving and overtaking each other just for making few more bucks without even caring for anyone precious life. Local metadors on the Bohri Talab Tillo routes are famous for such kind of rash driving. Even after such kind of fatal accidents drivers haven’t learnt any lesson from it. Still these Bohri matador drivers can be seen driving their minibuses recklessly. The traffic authorities have become mute spectators while watching all this happening around very feebly. They have just become watchdogs. The concerned traffic authorities are not vigilant while performing their duties and have become corrupted to some extent. There is an urgent need to address this problem. Stringent laws should be enforced by the traffic authorities and those violating the traffic rules should be punished wherein heavy fine should be charged from them. Traffic Police should take some measures so that these kinds of incidents never take place in future again. That’s the only way to redress this problem.
