Dear Editor,
The reservation policy and its continuation beyond the original limit of 10 years is just political opportunism. The Supreme Court earlier missed an opportunity during the Indira Sawhny case to lay down a clear policy on the issue. The policy of reservation adopted in the Constitution was to ensure social justice to the suffering class of people. Unfortunately, it is now taking a heavy toll on merit and causing social fragmentation. There could be other methods to support the underprivileged. Reservation will eventually harm the nation.
