SRINAGAR: One person was killed while three others were feared dead as the vehicle they were travelling in fell into a river in Drass area of Kargil district, police said on Wednesday.
“A private vehicle met with an accident and fell into river Drass near village Jasgund on Leh-Srinagar National Highway.
Four persons were on board the vehicle,” a police spokesman said. He said a rescue operation was launched by the police and civil administration and so far only the vehicle and one body has been retrieved. The deceased has been identified as Arjun Singh, a resident of Basant Colony in Pathankot area of Punjab.
Three others — Bittu Singh, Gulshan Singh and Ratan Singh, all residents of Pathankot — are still missing. “Rescue operation is still going on despite the fast flow of the river,” he added.
