’47’ remark: Gujjars seek resignation of Forest Min

JAMMU: Seeking stern action against the Forest Minister Ch. Lal Singh for his controversial remarks on Gujjar community, a large number of Gujjars on Tuesday held a protest demanding his resignation.
Led by President, Jammu Muslim Coordination Committee (JMCC), Ch. Mohd Yasmeen, Gujjars held protest rally from Shaheedi Chowk to CM’s House to present their memo of demands to Mehbooba Mufti. However, the protesters were intercepted by the security personnel.
They appealed to Chief Minister for intervening in the matter and issue directions to police for taking necessary action and register FIR against the minister for humiliating Gujjars and the Muslim community. “The State which is infested with militancy for a long period needs an atmosphere of communal harmony and brotherhood but derogatory remarks of a minister against particular community are against the century old secular ethics of the State,” Yasmeen said. “The group of traders went to Gandhi Nagar Police Station and lodged written complaint against the Minister but police has not taken any action in the complaint and even FIR has not been registered till date” he alleged adding that this action of police is irresponsible and condemnable. Earlier, Gujjars also visited Divisional Commissioner’s office and submitted a memorandum of their demands. Shoukat Gujjar, President JK Gujjar Federation, Mohd Rafeeq President Muslim Welfare Committee Samba, Ch Akhtar, President Gujjar Islahi Committee Jammu, Nazakat Khatana, President Gujjar Desh Youth Federation, Kash Choudhry, Moyhd Rafeeq, Haji Ikhlak, Shoukat Mir, Imran Khan Liyaqat Ch. Wali Mohd, Aziz Ch. Sadam Hussain, Mohd Aslam, Mushtaq Ahmed, Haji Bashir, Abdul Hussain Raju Ch. Fareed Ahmed and Mohd Haneef were also present.
