DODA: An 18-year-old youth, who was injured in an accident on 23rd May, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday at Govt Medical College Hospital Jammu. The victim was traveling on rooftop of mini passenger vehicle when on a sharp curve, he lost his balance and fell on the road near Kahie village on Kahara – Tanta Road in District Doda.
The victim, identified as Arshad Ahmed Harga son of Mohd Hanief Harga was seriously injured after he fell from the speeding vehicle, eyewitnesses took him to the District Hospital Doda from where he was airlifted to GMCH Jammu. Arshad was a native of village Goila in Tehsil Kahara of District Doda. The deceased teenager was pursuing Maulana course at Dara-ul-Aloom Deoband in Uttar Pradesh and had recently come to home for annual vocations.
As per the eyewitnesses, Arshad was asked to sit on the rooftop by the driver with his bags on the pretext that his luggage can fell from the roof on sharp curves on hilly slope of Khara – Tanta Road.
Meanwhile villagers are up in arms against the civil administration and police and held a strong protest at Kahara after they came to know that the injured youth succumbed to his injuries at GMCH Jammu.
Protestors were demanding immediate arrest of the erring driver and stern action against traffic violators, who put the lives of the passengers on risk by overloading.
Meanwhile police has registered a case and launched a manhunt for the absconding driver.
