UDHAMPUR: District Administration, Udhampur, sealed a government building located in the town after inspection revealed that building was being used by drug mafia and for illicit practices with suspected connivance of some officials. The building located at Dandyal near office of Chief Education Officer in the outskirts of town was constructed by the Sports Authority of India and later being used by the Sports Department.
A team of officers comprised of Tehsildar Udhampur Sapna Kotwal and SHO Udhampur O.P Chib inspected the building and found intoxicating substances in minor quantity, liquor bottles, capsules, used liquor pouches and other items following which the building was sealed by the team. The abandoned rooms were apparently being used by unauthorised persons.
Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, on receipt of specific information rushed a team to Dandyal where the used bottles, pouches and capsules etc were seized from the building premises. Spread over more than 10,000 SqFt area the building was lying unused ever since the central department left it. Earlier, the DC has instructed the District Youth Services and Sports Officer for utilisation of building however the department did not initiate any constructive step for its effective use.
The DC has appointed District Vigilance Officer (DVO) Angrez Singh Rana to enquire into the matter and fix responsibility for the officers involved in misuse of building and utilising it for flourishing drug addiction in town. He directed CEO Municipal Council for immediate fencing of the land to protect it from encroachment as some land of building has been occupied by locals which will be retrieved. Further directions have been issued for repair and maintenance of building and its utilisation for official purposes.
