SHO Khour arrested for raping a ‘rape’ victim;Conniving lady PSO arrested, terminated from services

Jammu: A Station House Officer (SHO) was on Wednesday arrested for raping a “rape survivor” inside the police station in the border belt of Akhnoor Sub-Division.
The sensational incident sent shock waves in the entire police establishment across the state, which responded immediately and arrested the SHO along with the ‘conniving’ lady SPO, who has been terminated from the service.
The incident came to light when a woman, identity withheld, submitted a written compliant to SDPO Akhnoor alleging rape by the SHO Khour police station.
The arrested cop has been identified as Sub-Inspector Mohammad Iqbal.
The victim’s parents had complained 15 days ago that a man had kidnapped and raped their daughter. Police found the two in Jammu about a week ago and brought them to the police station, where the victim was raped.
Immediately on receipt of complaint, Deputy Superintendent of Police subjected Iqbal to thorough questioning and ordered his immediate arrest. Accordingly he was taken into custody this morning.
A Special Police Officer, Mamata Kumari, who is suspected of having been involved in the heinous crime was also arrested, police said, adding that she has been terminated from the services.
Meanwhile, residents of Khour held protests against the incident and sought severe punishment to the culprits.
SSP Jammu Dr Sunil Gupta also addressed a press conference in the District police lines this evening and said law will take its course and the guilty will be punished.
He said an FIR 45/2016 under section 376 (2)/109 RPC at PS Khour stand registered in the case and investigations were progressing.
“We have taken a serious note of the allegation against the police officer. I have directed the SDPO to conduct immediate investigation in the case to deliver justice to the victim”, he added.
In the complaint the victim has stated her parents had filed a kidnapping case after she eloped with a local boy almost six months ago.
After the duo were traced and brought back to the Khour Police Station, they  spent two nights in the custody. According to the complainant, during these two nights she was raped by the police officer in custody. The SSP said that statement of the victim has been got recorded in the court of law under Section 164. He admitted that black sheep in the force were tarnishing fair image of the police and asserted that investigations will be held on fast track basis.
