300th Shaheedi Divas of Banda Singh Bahadur celebrated

JAMMU: To mark the Tricentury (300th) Shaheedi Divas of Banda Singh Bahadur ji, a Gurmat Samagam was organised under the supervision of Mahant Manjit Singh of Sheromani Dera Nangali Sahib, Poonch with the cooperation of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee here on Sunday.
Leaders of various political, religious and social organisations actively participated in the martyrdom day including Bhai Gurdev Singh and Bhai Gurmit Singh, Ragis of Shri Darbar Sahib Amritsar, Bhai Ranjit Singh ji Head Granthi Bangla Sahib Gurdwara Delhi.
Speaker Jammu and Kashmir Legislature Assembly, Minister for PHE, Sham Lal Chowdary, Member Parliament, Jugal Kishore Sharma. Former Ministers, Raman Bhalla, Gulcharan Singh Charak, S. Rangil Singh, former Deputy Chairman Legislative Council, Arvinder Singh Micky, Senior Advocate and Chief Spokesperson BJP, Sunil Sethi, District President BJP, Baldev Blouria, President Sikh United Front J and K, Sudarshan Singh Wazir and former President SGPB, Harvinder Singh CPO were present. Besides, leaders of local political parties including Sikh United Front, Sheromani Akali Dal, Bhai Kanaiya Nishkam Sewa Society, AISSF, Sikh Noujawan Sabha, Sikh Welfare Society, elected members of DGPC and President and Sectaries of Jammu and Kashmir and local Gurdwara Management Committee J and K and J and K Motor Transport Company Association Jammu were also present.
While addressing the gathering, Sudarshan Singh Wazir said that Banda Singh Bahadur born at Rajouri District of J and K baptised Amrit from Guru Gobind Singh Ji and afterward he was called Gurbaksh Singh. He fought many battles against cruelty of the rulers in favour of truth and justice. He was arrested during the Mughal rule and was brutally killed along with his family. So, he sacrificed his life for the sake of religion and country.
The speakers urged the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh that the name of Kunjwani Chowk should be renamed as Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Chowk immediately and a statue of Banda Singh Bahadur should also be placed on the said Chowk.
Besides the programme, the life and history of Banda Singh Bahadur Ji was also telecast.
Wazir expressed gratitude to Manjit Singh, President Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee for extending support in organising the Samagam.
Mahant Manjit Singh presented Siropas to prominent personalities who participated in the Samagam.
Others present in the programme include Avtar Singh Khalsa, Dharbinder Singh, Raja Singh, Ramneek Singh, Fateh Singh member DGPC Jammu, Surinder Singh Kala Convenor J and K Motor Transport Companies Association Jammu, Mohinder Singh, Paramjeet Singh Raina Ex Corporator, Rajinder Singh, Paramjeet Singh, Kulwant Singh, Surjeet Singh Kuku, Lachman Singh Gill Retd. S.P Kuldip Singh Malik, Kapoor Singh, Harpal Singh Prince, Balbir Singh, Manmohan Singh, Jagjeet Singh, Kultar Singh, Gajan Singh and Charanveer Singh Laad.
Meanwhile, JK Youth Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKYSAC) hailed the celebration of 300 Death Anniversary of Baba Banda Bhadur, who made the supreme sacrifice of his life and his son for the sake of curbing evils in the society during his time.
President JKYSAC, Pt R.C Sharma congratulated the organisers, who tried to remember the supreme sacrifices made by Baba Banda Bhadur.
Urging the people, he said that people must follow the path shown by Banda Bahadur for brotherhood, peace and prosperity.
