Two vehicles plunges into rivers; 5 killed, 8 injured

DODA/BANIHAL: Fiver persons got killed while eoght other got injured on Wednesday as two vehicles fell into river at Doda and Ramban districts.
As per the reports, a tipper driver and two others were feared drowned after the vehicle they were traveling in skidded off the road and plunged into the river Chenab in Doda District on Wednesday morning.
According to police sources, the tipper reportedly on its way from Thathri to Doda on reaching near Border Roads Organisation (BRO) camp Karara, skidded off the road and plunged into Chenab.
“According to eyewitnesses, a tipper bearing registration number JK 06-6459 went out of the driver`s control, perhaps due to slippery road condition and fell straight into the river at Karara on Batote – Kishtwar Highway at 7:30 AM ,” said SSP Doda Zahid Naseem Manhas.
” We are not sure that how many people were in the tipper at the time of accident, but as of now presence of three is confirmed. We have started the rescue operation since 8:00 AM, and are trying our best to locate the tipper which has completely disappeared into mighty Chenab,” SSP Doda added, saying that expert divers have been called and an alert has been sounded along river Chenab to locate the body of the driver and others.
The drowned persons have been identified as Mehboob Ahmed son of Abdul Rashid Mughal resident of Khilhotran Bhalessa, Ishtiaq Ahmed son of Mushtaq Ahmed Khan resident of Kilhotran and Mohd Arif son of Javed Iqbal Rather (Master) resident of Changa. Police has registered a case in this regard. Meanwhile, Two persons were killed while 8 others got injured when a mini bus carrying 10 passengers fell into Bichleri river near Nachlana. Indian Army troops based at Nachlana saved precious lives and rescued seven passenger alive when a mini bus Tempo Traveller registered number JK 02 AB 0207 carrying 10 passenger fell into Bichleri river near Nachlana. The army rescue team from Rashtriya Rifle camp Nachlana alongwith police and local volunteers immediately reached the accident site and saved seven lives while two dead bodies were recovered.
The injured patients after administering first aid at army medical treatment room were transferred to SDH Banihal. The police and civil administration applauded the effort of Indian Army which resulted in saving precious lives.
