Sport Climbing meet of Samba held

JAMMU: Samba District Sport Climbing Competition was organised on Monday at Tenzing Norgay Sport Climbing Wall in Sprawling Buds School complex, here by Ibex Adventure Club, Samba under the aegis of Mountaineering Association of J and K.
Since there was no female participant, the competition was held only in Boys categories of Mini, Sub Junior and Junior only. In absence of any serious challenge from other schools which were mostly participating for the first time, BBN High School, Vijaypur which has been regularly participating in district and state competitions, swept all the medals.
The Results: Mini Boys: Rydham Verma, Ist; Ashish Jangral, 2nd and Jatin Thapa, 3rd. Sub Junior Boys: Siddharth Singh, Ist; Abhi Verma, 2nd and Ansh Verma, 3rd. Junior Boys: Rohit Verma, Ist; Rayzali, 2nd and Mohinder, 3rd.
Everester Ram Singh Slathia, the Chief Guest of the day, remained present throughout the competition and exhorted the budding climbers to put in their best efforts. However, he had to leave for some urgent job just before the prize distribution ceremony and in his absence Ram Khajuria, General Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J and K honoured the winners and officials. Manik Slathia, a trained and upcoming mountaineer of the State was the Organising Secretary of the competition who was well supported by technical officials of Mountaineering Association including Sakshi Magotra, Shashi Kant, Mrityunjay Sharma and Satish Bhan.
Meanwhile, the Association has planned to conduct the remaining district competitions of Kathua, Rajouri and Doda in Jammu region before 15th May after which six district competitions in Kashmir shall be taken up in the second half of May. The Leh District competition shall, however, be organised in the month of August.
