Police beats teenager over suspicion, father threatens suicide

DODA: A 19- year-old boy has been allegedly manhandled by a Sub Divisional Police Officer(SDPO) at Gandoh Police Station in Bhalessa area of district Doda over mere suspicion and reportedly without any formal complaint.
The traumatised boy identified as Govind is undergoing treatment at at Govt Medical College Hospital Jammu for trauma and severe external injuries, his father has demanded criminal proceedings and registration of FIR against SDPO Gandoh failing which, he threatened to commit suicide.
Kuldip Kotwal father of teenager boy Govind said that his son was beaten to a pulp till he went unconscious, was handcuffed and dumped in the police station in front of him by SDPO Gandoh, Bhushan Kumar Ganjoo on 25th April after he was reportedly accused of harrasing his neighbours at his native village Jatota.
” On 24th of April, a police constable and a Special Police Officer (SPO) came to my place and asked me that SDPO has summoned my son Govind to his office. Next day I accompanied my son to Police Station Gandoh, where without any enquiry SDPO started punching and kicking him although SHO and another officer tried to stop their senior officer,” alleged Kuldip Kotwal father of Govind while addressing a press conference at Press Club Jammu.
” Police officer, who was in a fit of a rage hit his legs and other parts of his body repeatedly with baton and the leather belt, SDPO even asked the constables to insert chilli powder in his private parts in front of me, while I kept on begging to leave my son,” added Kotwal, demanding a probe into the incident and registration of FIR against the officer.
He threatened to commit suicide, if action is not initiated against the said police officer at the earliest. Despite repeated tries, SDPO did not pick up the phone for his version of the story.
