‘UG programmes of DDE to have semester system from 2016-17’

JAMMU: Prof. R.D Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu on Monday chaired the 109th Syndicate Meeting of the University of Jammu.
In order to achieve institutional excellence, Prof. Sharma stressed upon giving impetus to the various research, academic and administrative matters and also called for strengthening higher education with more focus on improvement of research and academic activities in the main campus and offsite campuses of the university.
Prof. Keshav Sharma, Registrar University of Jammu presented eighty-two items in the meeting.
Besides confirming the action taken on the various items presented, the Syndicate endorsed the introduction of Short Term Courses (Self Supporting) in the Departments of University of Jammu and its affiliated Colleges.
On the analogy of Kashmir University, discontinuation of admission of candidates failing in one subject in 10+2 from the next academic session in the Government affiliated colleges of the University of Jammu was also endorsed.
Syndicate also endorsed the signing of Memorandum of Understanding entered between Phreah Sihanouk Raja Buddhist University, Cambodia and the University of Jammu.
Guidelines for conducting written examination for persons with Disabilities issued by the Department of Disability Affairs, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India was also endorsed by the Syndicate.
Allowing candidates to answer the questions either in Hindi or English in the B.Ed examination and the setting of the question papers containing questions both in Hindi and English was also endorsed.
Adoption of Semester system at the undergraduate level through Directorate of Distance Education, University of Jammu from Annual System to Semester System for the academic session 2016-17 was also endorsed.
Introduction of Choice Based Credit System at Undergraduate Level in Degree Colleges affiliated with the University was also endorsed.
Besides these various other fresh administrative and academic matters were also presented for further deliberations and ratification.
The Syndicate meeting was attended by Navin K. Singh Joorel,Dean Faculty of Mathematical Sciences, JU, Prof G.M Bhat, Dept of Geology, JU, Prof Renu Sachar, Dept of Chemistry, JU, Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, Dean, Faculty of Law, JU, Prof. Ramnika Jalali, Department of Sanskrit, JU, Prof. Renu Goswami, Principal, Govt. College for Women, Parade and Prof. Koushal Samotra, Principal, Govt. College of Education.
