Kathua: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Youth Congress staged a protest against Union HRD Minister, Smriti Irani and Union Minister for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya for their alleged role in the suicide case of a Dalit scholar of Hyderabad University.
Led by National Secretary IYC and In-charge Youth Congress, Dr Uma Shankar Pandey and State PYC Chief, Pranav Shagotra, the activists assembled at Kathua demanding resignation of Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani for her alleged role in the suicide of Rohith Vemula.
Youth Congress members moved towards Main Chowk Kathua in the form of a rally and burnt the effigy of Smriti Irani amidst raising slogans against the Smrita Irani.
Speaking on the occasion, Pandey said that Smriti Irani misrepresented the facts in order to mislead the nation over the issue which is evident by the resignation of team of Professors, from their administrative posts, to protest over the ‘fabricated’ statements of Irani.
Pranav Shagotra President PYC criticised Prime Minister Narinder Modi for sheltering the tainted ministers and BJP leaders. He said that Dattatreya has been booked by Hyderabad Police for abetment of suicide and also for violation of the SC/ST Atrocities Act in the Rohith Vermula Suicide case hence he should be immediately arrested.
Shagotra said that PYC will continue to raise the issues of public concerned at all levels and fight for the cause of general public under the guidance of AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi and IYC President Amarinder Singh Raja Brar.
