LMD imposes Rs 15,500 fine on traders

POONCH: Under the supervision of Assistant Controller, Kewal Krishan, a team of officials from Legal Metrology Poonch conducted surprise raids at various trade establishments of Surankote and its adjoining areas and imposed a fine of Rs. 15,500 on the defaulter traders.
The team used dummy customers to detect various anti-consumer practices adopted by some traders to earn illegal profits. On the basis of a complaint, a couple of trade premises were raided at Surankote and the concerned erring traders were booked for selling packed commodity with smudged Maximum Retail Price and on further investigation from purchase bills it was found that the trader was fraudulently selling the pack of beverages on exorbitant rates over and above the MRP actually printed by the company. The management of one trade was found selling packs of beverages at Rs. 60 against the MRP Rs. 53.
Meanwhile, the team warned the traders not to indulge in any kind of anti-consumer practices and said that any indulgence in any kind of fraudulent practice shall be dealt in a competent Court of Law under Legal Metrology Rules and Consumer Protection Act. The Assistant Controller appealed to the public to cooperate with the department to prevent any kind of unfair trade practice and to register their genuine complaints, if any, with the Office of the Legal Metrology Poonch.
