NC announces intra-party elections

SRINAGAR: Stating that National Conference has always believed in ensuring a strong, transparent and a genuine democratic culture within the party, NC General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar on Wednesday announced to conduct intra party elections for Kashmir province.
In a marathon meeting at NC headquarters, Sagar impressed upon party functionaries including Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, Senior Vice President Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan, Provincial President Women’s Wing and MLA Habba Kadal Shamima Firdous and Provincial President Youth Wing Salman Ali Sagar, District Presidents, Block Presidents and Constituency Incharges to kick start party election process in their respective areas. Besides MLA Homshalibugh Abdul Majeed Bhat, MLA Pahalgam Altaf Ahmad Kaloo, MLA Ganderbal Ishfaq Jabbar, former MP GN Ratanpuri and Provincial Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar were also present.
“I am very happy that today we have initiated a process that is aimed at strengthening party at grass root levels. It was Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah who had shown us the way viz-a-viz ensuring transparency within the party. He is a beacon of light for all of us. It was he who would ensure that our workers are not discriminated with and must be showered with respect. We have to follow his footsteps by respecting those who are our emissaries in public, NC cadre. They are our biggest treasure,” Sagar said.
While asking all the party functionaries’ to ensure timely completion of the process, Sagar said, “It is upto you that districts and blocks work in tandem and as far as any decision regarding the intra party elections is concerned, workers must be taken on board. If we have to make NC strong, then we have purged ourselves from our personal likes and dislikes when it comes to party.”
He exuded confidence that all the legislators would ensure that the genuine grievances of NC workers are ably dealt with. “We have to strengthen party at Halqa and block levels and if they are strong, party leadership is strong.”
Provincial President Kashmir, Nasir Aslam Wani while speaking on the occasion expression satisfaction at the successful conclusion of party’s basic membership drive. He said, “Our membership drive in Kashmir province has taken almost three months to complete which is now complete with 8,67,450 membership tickets issued to party members across Kashmir valley and I feel proud to share with you that all the drive has been absolutely fair and transparent.”
On issue of representation in party at various levels Nasir said, “Intra party elections will be thoroughly monitored by committees consisting of members from across the valley. It will make sure that no foul practice is allowed in the process. NC is committed to the idea of eradicating lobbyism from the party rank and file which is not possible without your help.”
