Khalsa, Jammu Stars XI script win in T20 Cup

JAMMU: Khalsa XI and Jammu Stars XI won their respective matches to stay alive in the 4th Twenty20 Cricket (Eid- Diwali-Christmas) Cup got underway at Parade Ground, here on Saturday.
In the first match, Jammu Stars XI defeated Sai Cricket Club by three wickets.
Batting first, Sai Cricket Club scored 156 runs with Arun Johny (64) and Ashu (55) being the main scorers.
Micky took four wickets for Jammu Stars XI, while Sunil Sambyal and Vikrant shared apiece each.
In reply, Jammu Stars XI achieved the target in 19 overs by losing seven wickets. Gourav was the top scorer with 35 runs, while Anand Tripathi contributed 21 runs.
And Micky chipped in 16 runs. Johny and Bittoo shared two wickets each, while Varinder and Arvind claimed one each. Micky was adjudged Man of the Match.
In the second match, Khalsa XI scripted a fine 26 runs win against United Cricket Club. Batting first, after winning the toss, Khalsa made 151 runs in 18 overs game. Prithi (37), Mannu (32) and Nitin (21) were main scorers. Sameer took three wickets while Saqib bagged two.
Later, United Club could not chase the target and exhausted their quota of overs for 124 runs losing five wickets.
Amir and Saqib were main contributors to the total with 46 and 21 runs in their respective accounts.
Sushant and Mannu shared two wickets each. For his all round performance, Mannu was adjudged Man of the Match.
Earlier, Vinod Kumar IPS, SP City Jammu in presence of Fr. Kuriakose Chairman Christian Sports Organization, R.C Kotwal SP Headquarters and Organising Secretary, Rajesh Gill (Chief Prosecuting Officer) declared open the tournament.
Speaking to the gathering, SP City appreciated the organizers for conducting the event.
He further said that J and K Police was regularly conducting different sports activities under the civic action program with the objective to channelise the energy of the youths of the State in a right direction so that they may involve in anti social, drugs etc.
Earlier Fr. Kuriakose said that the Christian Sports Organisation in conducting sports activities and drug awareness camps in collaboration with J and K Police.
The competition, wherein 24 teams are participating, is being organised jointly by Jammu and Kashmir Police Department, Simula Sports Club, Atman Sports Club and Christian Sports Organization.
Today’s matches were officiated by the technical panel including Sandeep Manchanda, Vinod, Sunil and Danny.
