AKHNOOR: Former Minister and National Conference senior leader, Dr. Mustafa Kamal on Sunday inaugurated Thakur Dass Memorial T20 Cricket Tournament at Government Boys Higher Secondary School Ground, here.
In the opening match of the tournament, Singh Cricket Club (SCC) Akhnoor defeated Namander Cricket Club (NCC) Akhnoor by 44 runs.
Batting first after winning the toss, SCC was bundled out for 183 in 19.2 overs.
Sunny played a brilliant knock of 69 runs followed by Govind and Chandan Sharma, who added 34 and 22 runs to the total.
For NCC, Sonu, Munna and Rinku shared two wickets each while Arush and Rohit took one each.
In reply, NCC failed to chase the target and managed only 139 for the loss of ten wickets in 18.5 overs thus lost the match by 44 runs. Golu (29 runs), Sonu (22), Arush (22) and Bablu (20) were the main scorers.
For SCC, Sham Singh Langeh picked three wickets while Chander Kiran, Sunny and Rajinder Sharma shared one each.
Sunny for his match winning performance was declared as Man of the Match.
First match was sponsored by NC senior leader Dr. Gafoor Ahmad.
Organisers of the tournament, Madan Lal and Joginder Magotra informed that in all eight teams of local area are participating in the tournament.
Others present were NC leader Kuldeep Kour, Jagdish Dutt Sodhi and Rajinder Kumar.
