RAJOURI: Inhabitant’s of Ward Number 5 of Rajouri on Saturday held a protest against the official of Municipal Committee alleging employees are not lifting garbage dumped in their respective ward.
Protesters were alleging that the intolerable smell emitting out of these heaps of garbage is badly affecting the health of the residents and commuters specially school children finding it very difficult to cross the lanes.
Shahnawaz Mughal and Mohd Tariq, office holders of Social Justice, a NGO, who were leading the protesters, said that most of the structures in Rajouri city have been raised illegally and un-planned in nexus with the Municipal Committee officials.
The land left for lanes and drains have been encroached by the people and narrow lanes are creating obstacles for the Municipality employees to bring trolleys inside many areas in the city.
“Safaiwalas avoid carrying garbage on their heads and many times leave garbage at particular points which have taken a shape of huge dumps “, they said adding that the government has provided hundreds of dustbins to be installed in every corner of the wards, but MC officials seem to have dumped the stock somewhere and might be getting rusted.
Rizwan Malik and Ishtiyaq Ahmed both students from Ward Number 5 stated that Municipality Rajouri has become totally defunct and the general public is forced to launch agitation. They appealed to the Deputy Commissioner to instruct the municipal officials to perform their duties with dedication and improve the hygienic atmosphere of the city which is situated on the top of the mountain between Agli Tawi and Sukhto Rivers.
