BJP has let down people of Jammu: R S Chib
Chandigarh:- Former J-K Minister R S Chib today slammed the BJP for misleading the people of the state saying the party had wooed the people with promises and sops but after forming the government they have forgotten them.
“The BJP wooed people with false promises like abrogating Article 370, promising several sops for the people of Jammu including those living in border areas.
“But once they formed the government in the state with their coalition partner PDP, they have forgotten their promises,” Chib told reporters here.
He alleged that again the BJP was “misleading” the people of Jammu on the setting up of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
“In the Common Minimum Programme of BJP and PDP, AIIMS was to go to Kashmir and not Jammu, but BJP leaders kept on deceiving the people of Jammu on this. However, the people have recognised the real face of the BJP and are not going to buy their arguments until the demand is conceded,” the senior Congress leader said.
He demanded that senior BJP leaders at the Centre should “break their silence and categorically make it clear whether AIIMS will be set up in Jammu or not”.
Chib alleged that ever since the PDP-BJP government was formed in J&K, separatist elements are again raising their head.
“Even in the worst of times during militancy in the state, we had not seen Pakistan flags being openly waved. Now even the ISIS flags are being waved, which is a matter of serious concern,” he said.
He said that the recent killings in Sopore town in Kashmir are a “chilling reminder” of the volatile situation that is building up. And in a situation like this, PDP wants to revoke AFSPA, he added.
Chib further said, “Both PDP and BJP, which are ideologically poles apart, have pushed the development of the state on the backburner and it has virtually come to a standstill. There is total failure on the governance front and a state of confusion exists.”
“There is still a long way to go as far as reconstruction of flood-affected areas, both in Kashmir and some parts of Jammu which witnessed the worst floods last year, goes,” he said.
Chib also alleged that the power situation in some areas of Jammu, especially the rural belt, is not good, but the government was not taking concrete steps to solve this.
