Licenses of five chemists cancelled, notices to 16

RAMBAN: The Licensing Authority Ramban, Renuka Raina (Assistant Controller Drugs) along with a team of Drug Inspectors carried out extensive tour of the district on Friday.
During the drive, 45 establishments were checked and showcause notices were issued to 16 firms for contravening various provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and Rules there under, operation of five medical shops namely A R Rehman Medicate, Wani Medicals Store, Zahoor Medicate, Khajuria Medical Hall (Kud), Bhat Medicate was stopped in exercise of powers vested under section 22 (d) of the said Act.
A total of 16 samples, five from Govt Institutions and 11 from market were lifted for the purpose of determining its strength, purity and identity.
During the drive improper storage conditions were observed in the stores of Sub District Hospital Ramban, Sub District Hospital Banihal and Accident and Trauma Care Hospital Batote. The hospital authorities have been given strict instructions to upgrade their existing storage arrangements.
Seizure of Tablet Stimat Manufactured by Prolab Pvt Limited, 140-141, Makrandpur, B.No. not mentioned, quantity 300 tablets was seized as the same was found misbranded.
In a separate exercise, inspections were carried out in holy town Katra with respect to regulating sale of intoxicating drugs. It was observed, that one firm namely M/s Krishna Medical Store, Hospital Road, Katra has procured 1,100 tablets of Verodol P and Peratel T, a combination of Tramadol and Paracetamol from Satyam Distributors, Canal Road Jammu and Adhiraj Pharmaceuticals, R.N Pura Jammu.
The firm had not maintained its sale record as per the provisions of law and therefore the operation of the said shop was closed forthwith pending detailed investigation. It is pertinent to mention here that reports about misuse of said preparations has been reported of late by media. Operation of another Shop namely M/s Suritar Medical Hall, Katra was stopped as the shop had huge stocks of Drug Vigora Tab, B.No. 03631, Suhagra Tab, B.No. DP3163 containing Sildenafil Citrate as one of the ingredient. The sale of such drugs is permitted by the dispensing chemist on the valid prescription of Venerologist/Endocrinologist/ Dermatologist. The said drug was being stocked presumably with an ulterior motive to gain undue benefits by misusing the usage of such preparations.
