‘Need for innovations in research’

KATRA: In the series of distinguished lectures organised by School of Physics, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Prof. K.L Chopra, ex-Director IIT Kharagpur delivered two lectures entitled ‘Nanoscience and Nanotechnology’ and ‘Nurturing Innovations and Entrepreneurship in R and D for Academia’ on Tuesday at SMVDU.
While the former lecture covered various aspects of the fundamentals of nano-science and technology, need for innovations and challenges for entrepreneurs in research and development were emphasised in the latter. The event was graced by the presence of Prof. S.K Jain, Vice-Chancellor SMVDU who is also a well-known expert in the field of entrepreneurship. Both the lectures were attended by students and faculty members from across the disciplines of science, engineering, economics and management. In his address, Prof. Chopra emphasised the need for shifting to “make in India” efforts rather than the present endeavours focused at “make for India.”
The much hyped demographic dividend of the country can be translated into knowledge pool through innovations and entrepreneurships only. The lecture ended with fruitful discussions on the upcoming Technology Business Incubation Centre (TBIC) at SMVDU.
